Therapy Dogs

Wisconsin Rapids Kennel Club has offered Therapy Dog classes for
approximately 5 years.  We spend time assessing the dog’s ability to
work with patients in hospitals and nursing homes.  Therapy Dogs are
out in the community reading with children who need to improve their
reading skills.  Therapy dogs are much less intimidating and certainly
more fun to curl up while reading.  They are out visiting in the nursing
homes where the elderly and disabled patients have an opportunity to
pet the dogs and most importantly talk about the dogs they have had in
the past.  We are currently working with hospice to get the ok to visit
terminally ill patients and developmentally disabled persons in group
homes etc.

Therapy Dog classes are offered  in a 6 week format,  the dogs must be
one year of age and actively participated in at least one obedience
class.  Upon completion of the classes we attempt to schedule a testing
date with a Therapy Dog International  representative at our WRKC site.
Please check the current class schedule for class dates and times.
